Sharon on the Issues

ECONOMY

It has been said that the price of residing in paradise is a high-cost of living. I believe we can change this reality by creating economic growth for all members of our community. Growth will result when we become serious about diversifying our economy. If re-elected, I will continue to support Hawaii's current markets of tourism, the military, and agriculture, as these industries have always been the foundation of Hawaii’s economy.  I will, however, continue to seek out new industries for our State particularly in the areas of renewable energy.

Nearly 70 members of our community joined Sharon on March 31, 2007 to paint out graffiti in Kapolei and Kalaeloa.

We live in paradise and must capitalize on our natural resources such as the sun, wind, waves, and deep sea water which are all sources of energy.  With the cost of oil continuing to rise, we must continue to explore alternative methods of energy.  I have strongly supported these efforts in my first two years in office and will continue to do so if re-elected.  Moreover, as we are headed for an economic downturn in the state’s economy, I will continue to be fiscally responsible while balancing the needs of our community.  I am committed to creating job growth in Kapolei because we must move forward in fulfilling the vision as a true City, a place where we not only live and play, but work.
